Joe Schwartz, Hacker in Residence
We're pleased to welcome Joe Schwartz (CC 1992, NYU Law 2006) as Columbia Startup Lab's first Hacker in Residence. For 20 years, Joe has designed software, developed systems, and advised a variety of businesses, including startups, media and entertainment companies, and financial firms. From desktop software to mobile applications, Joe has implemented a wide variety of technologies on a variety of platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows, and Linux. Joe’s projects have included building one of Zimbabwe’s first internet service providers; games for early Blackberry devices; a web-based movie recommendation engine based on crowdsourced collaborative filtering; compression algorithms for a proprietary network stack; and several location-aware mobile apps. Joe is a also a former attorney at Goodwin Procter where he worked with companies and individuals on regulatory, litigation, and criminal matters.
Joe holds regular office hours on Tuesdays and Fridays at the Columbia Startup Lab and plans on leading small seminars on relevant topics, specifically focusing on technology and law.
