Alessandro Piol '79, '82, Vice Chair
Alessandro Piol is president, partner and co-founder of Vedanta Capital, a venture capital firm that invests in technology-based products and services that leverage, enhance, or complement network infrastructure, innovative medical technologies and compounds, and disruptive business and consumer services.
Before starting Vedanta Capital, Piol was a general partner at Invesco Private Capital (IPC) where he was responsible for investments in information technology, a sector in which he has been active since the late 1970s. Prior to joining IPC, Piol spent 10 years with AT&T Corp., dividing his time between operating and investment positions. In 1991, he co-founded AT&T Ventures, the venture capital arm of AT&T, where he led the fund's investments in several new media and communications companies. He also co-founded and served as vice president of marketing of Pixel Machines, an AT&T-backed venture in the graphics computing business. Before his tenure at AT&T, Alessandro spent several years in the software industry, developing system software and compilers.
In addition, Piol serves as president of the New York chapter of TiE Global, an organization that fosters entrepreneurship worldwide, and is a director of several private technology companies. He was also a founding director of the New York New Media Association. Piol earned a BS and MS in computer science from Columbia’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
